We were on a hiatus from home improvement projects while River settled into our home and lives, but the 1970s called over the weekend and wanted their doorknobs back. All the doorknobs in our house, all 10 of them, were shiny brass. The very height of 1970s decor. We replaced them all with doorknobs that are not all that different in shape, but are a brushed silver. Little changes can make a big impact.

We found that out when we first moved into the house a little over a year ago. See the people before us loved to paint, but did not care for removing things like light switch plates and outlet covers. They just painted over them in whatever color they were painting the wall. I suppose the argument could be made that this would make them blend in on the wall, but that only holds true until some of the paint wears off due to frequent use, which it had, so it turned out just looking like ass. So we took an inventory, spent about $50 and replaced every single light switch, light switch plate, outlet and outlet cover in the entire house. It was so satisfying.

Speaking of the former owners of the house and their love for painting, I wonder if they were color blind. They picked out some of the most awful colors. Some of which we are still dealing with. We've already painted over the biggest offender. The entryway and 1 wall of the adjoining living room was painted a dark brick red. It made walking into the house feel like walking into a cave. 2 coats of primer and 1 coat of Weathered Sandstone later and the problem is solved, but yuck, I hated that color.
