It's another 'Workshare Wednesday,' so I'm back at my painting project again. What makes the painting in this house such an onerous chore, as opposed to a simple home improvement project, all starts with the fact that 30ish years ago when this house was built the walls were all textured with what is referred to as orange peel texture.

The texture in and of itself isn't a problem, other than making a few painting techniques impossible. The problem really centers on the 30ish years of different owners and all the holes they've put in the walls. Now if it were simply the issue of patching/filling in holes that would be no problem at all, but what I'm dealing with is the botched attempts at patching/filling in holes. Seriously folks, if you have textured walls and are patching/filling holes in the wall you have to try and match the existing texture or it will turn out looking like ass. Believe me. Ass.

So rather than just wiping down the walls and getting on with the priming and painting, I have the following process to slog through... 1) Use the random orbit sander to take off the excess sheet rock mud used to patch/fill some of the holes (sometimes up to a quarter of an inch thick). 2) Carefully fill any existing holes and wait for the mud to dry. 3) Wipe down the walls. 4) Spray over the patched/filled areas with Orange Peel Texture Spray and wait for that to dry. 5) Prime. 6)Paint.
