Today was the big day! And we rocked it! ...cuz we rock. Go team 4 Feet 4 Paws!

My friend Sally and I have been working on gathering money for the past month. On top of hitting up friends and family (which we totally appreciate for all their support), we also got money from a 'Jeans Friday' fundraiser at work (pay $5 and you get to wear jeans on Friday, proceeds go to a worthy cause - big shout out to PNWT!). And last but not least, we made homemade dog biscuits, packaged them all up and sold them for small donation to "the cause."

So the big question...how much did we raise? $760!!! See how we rock? We were a little flabbergasted. Okay, a lot flabbergasted. We had sort of hoped we set out on our mission that we would raise around $200 to donate. So, yeah...shocking, but in a good way. We even ended up winning a prize for biggest individual donation! Go us!

We have some awesome coworkers and friends that did a different event that was also raising money for the Kitsap Human Society, and with what they raised that ups the amount given by the little group of us to $1,000. That's right, one thousand dollars. In a month.

So here's how the day broke down. Sally came over a little before 9am and she, River and I walked over to the fairgrounds where the event was held. Registration was a little slice of pandemonium (big shout out to DH who drove down to give me my registration forms that I'd forgotten at the house), but we got it all handled. Because of the amount that we'd gathered, we not only got doggie bandannas, but tshirts, tote bags and entered into a raffle for a nice KHS sweatshirt.

We did a little bit of looking around at the vendors, and a little bathroom location reconnaissance, before the "race" started at 10am. We chose to walk the course, as opposed to running it...cause we're not crazy. It didn't rain, but it did mist heavily the entire time on the course and we both got pretty wet by the time we were done. The walking around kept us warm though. It took us about an hour and a half to do the entire 5k.

After finishing up the walk, we went back to explore the vendor fair. Lots of free stuff from the vendors, dog food samples, dog treats, tennis balls, pens. We passed on the frisbees, but there were lots available. We stuck around for the raffle drawings and other prizes awarded. Glad we did, as we had won something. Then, cold and wet, we headed back to the house.

River had a wonderful time. I'm sure she enjoyed the long walk, but it was the other dogs there that really got her interest. She got to meet and play with chihuahuas, dachshunds, mastiffs, boxers, corgis, schnauzers, other labs, and mixes of all kinds. She was a happy puppy. I even took her through the agility course, which she was unfamiliar with, but she did pretty good for a first timer.
