Dog Booties

A small scratch near a claw is what started it all off. If left alone it would have probably healed in a few days and the scab would have fallen off without notice. But it was not left alone...more like the opposite of that.

Not being able to actually get at the place that was cut, River chewed and licked at her foot until it was raw, swollen and infected. A trip to the vet later and we had an anti-inflammatory (1/2 a pill twice a day), antibiotics (2 pills twice a day) and medicated wipes to use on the area twice a day. The wipes actually smell like the inside of a pumpkin...it's weird.

And to top it all off. Keeping her from more chewing and lick was of utmost importance. So we either had to get her a cone or booties. We just couldn't bring ourselves to make her wear the 'cone of shame' so opted to get her dog booties, though judging by the look on her face in the picture below there was plenty of shame involved.

We don't make her wear all four at a time (just for the picture) as it's only the back right foot that we needed to keep her away from. Anyway she's healing nicely.

Oh, poor baby. Who knew booties could be so shameful!
