Let the Home Improvements Begin!

My dad gets home for the Summer today. Each year he leaves his beloved Kauai to venture home to his native Bremerton, where he can complain about the weather and help us on home improvement projects. Last year he completely gutted our garage and put up new storage and a proper work bench (the storage was for our benefit, the work bench was for his). We also built new mantle pieces for the two fireplaces in the house.

So what's on tap for this year? Rebuilding a fence, putting in a gate and redirecting the drainage from a couple of the gutter downspouts. That should keep him busy, right? Of course, we'll be right there with him, working our little butts off.

It's funny the symmetry in things. My mom loves to shop and since she has pretty much filled her own home, she wants to buy stuff for us. I only have to focus her efforts into things we actually need and want. My dad loves to do home improvement projects and build stuff, but his house is 'done', so he ends up finding things to do over here. Again, I just have to channel that energy into things we think are priorities and then let him do his thing. Win-win!
